Want to start a blog? Or maybe you already have one but you haven’t amassed the followers you want to. There are a few ways to tell if you’re going to make a successful blogger, it’s all about your personality traits, motivations, and commitment! It’s not just about showing up, it’s about believing in yourself and pushing yourself to the next level!
#1 – Passion
Every good blog starts with passion. You need to know this is something you really want to do, not something that you’re doing for extra cash or the chance of becoming popular. Because it’s a long road, so you definitely need to be passionate.
#2 – Creativity
Sometimes you need to think outside the box. You need to be able to design your own page on a budget, know how to work with photos and fonts, be prepared to take your own Instagram photos that follow a theme.
If creativity excites you, then you’re already in the top tier of bloggers who think differently. Innovation drives popular blogs.
#3 – Organization
OMG. Organization is the most overlooked skill when running a website or a blog. I have spreadsheets for everything, and a physical calendar full of appointments and key dates. It’s the only way to stay ahead. It might sound like a lot of effort, but if you take 30 minutes to organize yourself you’ll find that you’re much more productive and creative.
#4 – Drive
Everybody struggles with this. But you need to get out of bed (if you’re working from home) and set yourself some deadlines. You can use a tool like Wunderlist to track your progress, each time you hear that ‘ding’ sound, you get this hugely satisfying feeling that you’ve ticked off a task.
#5 – Attention to detail
You’re going to need strategies. Social media strategies, income strategies, photo shoot strategies, content strategies. For such a creative business, it takes a lot of lateral thinking. If you’re prepared to do that and put all the work in, then you’ll be fine.
#6 – Confidence
You need to be able to network online and offline. In the blogging world, it’s more about making friends and meeting other like-minded bloggers. Use Twitter to join blogger chats and be sure to leave meaningful (not promotional) comments on other blogs every so often.
#7 – Originality
You can blog about anything, but what really makes a good blog is the ability to build on a niche. It could be your personality and writing voice, your interests, or that you blog about one particular thing and find others that are interested in it, too. Don’t copy or replicate what you see elsewhere. Just be yourself, do you, and be excited to share it.
You may need to train this, but part of being visible in the online world opens you up to criticism. There are whole website forums dedicated to criticizing bloggers,Vogue even took down fashion bloggers recently, so if you’re ready to be visible online, you should have a thick skin and know that everybody has opinions.
